All About You

So you’re engaged…THAT’S AWESOME!! You must be thrilled out of your mind and I cant thank you enough for considering me to photograph one of the most important days of your life. I consider all of my clients to be friends, and feel that a relationship is the most important part to telling your story. My favorite clients are those who enjoy laughter, show their affections to one another in deep and genuine ways, and express excitement in showing their photos with friends and family. I love working with people who feel comfortable in showing their true selves, and trust me to show the world how beautiful they are.

Just as everyone is different, so is every wedding. What is going to be unique about your wedding? How did you meet and fall in love? How and when did you get engaged? What do you do together for fun? How important is photography to you on your wedding day? Whether through a phone call, a Skype session, or meeting for a beer or a cup of coffee, I am always eager to get to know new people and hear their love story. Your photographs include our sharing time together to find the images you will treasure and share with others, and I want you to have the comfort of having me there as a trusted friend, as well as your photographer. It all starts here and I look forward to meeting you!

I think it’s better that you see the personal messages that I have been blessed to receive from my clients. These thank you cards and handwritten notes will forever be the most gratifying part of what I get to provide for my clients.

FAQ’s

Digital Files

Do we get the digital files?

Absolutely. This is something I have been doing since day one when I graduated from photography school. I think it’s important for my clients to have those files and have the ability to use, print and share them however they’d like.

How are they delivered?

I used to deliver them via DVD. But with the advancement of technology better options are now available to us. No more having to worry about a DVD getting lost or scratched. Your online gallery of photos will all be stored in the cloud. Easily accessible on any computer, mobile device or tablet. One button click and you’ll start downloading all images. You can even order prints direct from the gallery at very affordable prices. Lastly, you can send that link to all your friends and family so they too can enjoy the photos and download the ones they like of themselves.

Here is a sample gallery of how you will receive your images: Sample Gallery

Second Shooter

Do you have a second shooter?

In all the weddings I have photographed, about 90% were shot solo. So I am comfortable managing with or without a second photographer. In plenty of situations on the wedding day it is great to have a second photographer for key moments like when the couple is getting ready at two different locations, during the ceremony, cocktail hour and family portrait times. I provide options for a second photographer in all of my wedding photography collections.

Travel Expenses

How much does it cost for you to travel to my wedding?

I have been traveling around the US and throughout the world for the last 4 years to shoot weddings. Setting up the airplane travel, hotel, rental car etc can be time consuming, expensive and difficult. So I’ve come up with a way that makes things easy for clients to understand and no cost of time. I have divided the US into four areas. Each one has a cost. I use that money to cover my plane, hotel and rental car. If it is more than that I will cover the cost out of my own pocket. If you are unsure which area your wedding would fall into please email me.

Gear What kind of gear do you use?

I use Canon professional gear. I have top of the line cameras and lenses. When I shoot all images are saved to two different memory cards at the same time as a precaution in case one card has errors. This feature is something only available in the most high end equipment.

You a natural light shooter?

While nothing beats beautiful sunlight I am trained and even teach others how to use, modify and create light from flashes in order to create beautiful images no matter the conditions. That means if there is a dark overcast in the sky, rain, or even if things are running late and the ceremony ends after dark — I’ve got you covered. I am able to create the images you’ll love no matter what is thrown at us.

Reserve Our Date

How do I reserve you for our wedding day?

I make this quite easy. The two things needed to reserve your date are the signed wedding agreement and half of the total amount for your wedding. Both can be done online, over the phone or in person. Once we have talked & emailed or had a chance to meet and made sure we would be a good fit, I’ll send you a link to sign the agreement and process the payment using any major credit/debit card over the phone or in person. Once those two things are done – It is on my calendar and that date will be yours.

Photos

How many photos will I get?

600-1000 is what I have found is a good number to tell the entire story of a wedding day and around what you should expect depending on the amount of time that I am at your wedding.

Color or Black & White?

I deliver all photos in color. Along with that, I deliver in black & white on select images that I feel are best. You may then request additional black & whites on any image that you would like.

Are they high resolution?

Absolutely. The photos will be optimized so not only are the high resolution and will print amazing, but they are also stripped of all the unnecessary information that makes file sizes large and bloated. This way you can download the images quicker, attach them to emails, share on Facebook and upload to your favorite cloud server without it taking weeks. Over the years I have dialed in the perfect optimized file size that gives you all the benefits of printing and working with the images online as possible.

How long before I see them?

Within a week from your wedding day, you will first have a sneak peek of photos from some of my favorites. I love the thought of you two looking through your photos while on your honeymoon. After that, all images and any albums are delivered no longer than 3 months from your wedding day. In almost all cases, I have your images edited, delivered and an initial album design ready within 2-6 weeks from the wedding day.

Albums

How do we select photos for our album?

To get the album design process started, I select my favorites that I feel tell the story best and send you an initial album design to look over. From there, you can add/change/remove any photos that you would like by referring to the photo number within your gallery.

How many photos can we put in the album?

With the 50 pages (25 spreads) that are included in the album, it’s best to keep the number of photos between 150-200. Less images allow more space in the album but you may certainly have as many photos as you would like. The albums can hold up to 70 pages, so you can add more pages at an additional cost over the included 50 pages to allow for more photos.

Prints

Do I have to order prints through you?

Nope. You can download and order your prints wherever you would like. If you like things that are convenient and easy you’ll love the print order system built directly into the gallery though. Prices are extremely affordable and the prints are printed at an amazing production facility that specializes in professional prints and delivered direct to your home in just a few days. So if you want to do it yourself you can, but if you like it easy I’ve made that possible for you as well.

Food

Do we need to feed you?

It’s not required but sure appreciated. I am even ok if you want to order me a pizza. 🙂 If you decide that the guest dinner is a little pricey to order one more and would rather give me a 30-min break to go and grab some fast food for myself that is okay as well. I have even brought a sack lunch and snacks to make it through. Just give me the heads up so I can plan that out with the DJ and wedding coordinator. If it is agreed that I will have a second shooter at the wedding it is appreciated that they are fed as well.

Do you need a space at a table?

Nope. Actually I’d prefer not to sit with the guests. Not because I don’t want to meet them but because I am usually working at the same time as I am eating. I typically find a hidden corner somewhere (or behind the DJ) and as I am eating I will be downloading photos, cleaning gear, charging batteries etc. Also there will be times when I need to get up quickly to take photos of an event that is happening. So it is always much better for me to not have to excuse myself constantly from a table of your friends and family.

Contact

How do I reach you?

Easiest way is my email here: david@davidgillettephotography.com and the most direct way is to call or text my cell: 815-670-9585. I’m old fashioned in that I answer my phone when I’m available and always respond back to text/voice messages :).
