Race & Religious Wedding | New Orleans | Katherine & Jensen

Jensen & Katherine’s wedding at Race & Religious was my first time to New Orleans and it was an experience I will always remember. Their wedding was a perfect example of why I love photographing weddings. We first met in Vail, Colorado when they came out for a ski trip last year and Katherine didn’t know it at the time, but Jensen had made arrangements for me to photograph his proposal to Katherine in front of a beautiful ice waterfall on their last day visiting. If that wasn’t enough, when Katherine’s family caught word of what was happening, they contacted me and everyone flew out to Vail to meet with me beforehand. We all hiked up to the ice waterfall and hid in the woods to watch/photograph the big moment. It was incredible and such a special moment with all of them.

When they reached out to me about coming down to New Orleans to photograph the wedding, I couldn’t say yes fast enough. My wife and I made a trip of it and stayed for a week and what an amazing place it is. Race & Religious is one of the most unique, historical and charming venues I have ever photographed. The kindness and generosity of Katherine, Jensen and their families was truly touching and everything that I have ever been told about southern hospitality. They welcomed us openly to everything, inviting us to all of their events and making us feel like one of the family. They even sent me home with to-go’s of homemade gumbo and pralines after the wedding (which were delicious).

The wedding day was an incredible celebration like I’ve never seen! The outpouring of love for these two was so special and their first look moment was one that had me in tears. Katherine’s father walked her down the aisle and then took over as officiant for a very sweet ceremony. Even with 200 guests in attendance, it felt very personal and intimate. After the ceremony they went into a second line parade around the block with the band leading the way and returned to Race & Religious for a party that went all night. The band “The River City Hit Squad” was amazing, joining the dance floor with the guests and including them in all of the songs. They even brought them up to help sing and did a tambourine limbo. Not only did I love working with Katherine, Jensen & their families, I really just had a ton of fun with all of them. I even snuck a selfie with Katherine’s sisters into the blog just to show how much fun I was having haha.

Congratulations, Katherine & Jensen! It was such an honor to tell your story and be a part of your special moments.
